    St. George's - July 6, 2012 - Grenada has ratified the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. The convention is an intergovernmental treaty that provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources.

    June 26, 2012 - The Government of Guyana has signed an Agreement with Anadarko Guyana Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (Anadarko) a United States of America based company to undertake exploration in the deep waters of Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

    June 21, 2012 - Prime Minister of Norway Mr. Jens Stoltenberg has reaffirmed the country’s support for the implementation of Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) which continues to be hailed as a model for sustainable development.


    June 18, 2012 - The Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank and Bloomberg New Energy Finance score 26 nations on their relative ability to foster low-carbon energy growth.

    Houston - June 15, 2012 - The National Gas Company of Trinidad & Tobago (NGC) announced today that it will issue its first tender for the sale of LNG to international markets through Houston-based Waterborne Energy.

    June 6, 2012 - The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority signed solar power purchase and interconnection agreements on St. Thomas. The three companies: Toshiba International Corporation; Lanco Virgin Islands I, LLC; and Sun Edison, LLC will provide approximately 9 MW (megawatts) of solar energy, per district, into WAPA’s electrical grid.


    June 1, 2012 - The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) will unveil the key findings on the economic impacts of climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean on Tuesday, June 5 at the IDB headquarters in Washington, D.C.

    Bridgetown - May 9, 2012 - Barbados will soon have a National Sustainable Energy Policy to guide policy initiatives and the development of an operational framework to generate incentives that would result in substantial energy savings for the island.


    Kingston - May 4, 2012 - With support of a US$20 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the first phase of the Government’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation programme has been launched. It will be executed over a four-year period.

    April 25, 2012 - The Premier, the Hon. McKeeva Bush, OBE, JP announced a renewable solar energy programme, the new Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority and provided an update on the Save the Home Programme.

    Kingston - April 20, 2012 - The government, in the next two weeks, will launch its energy efficiency and conservation programme, aimed at saving more that $2 billion per year in energy costs.

    Washington, DC  - April 16, 2012 - The Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders (EWCL;http://wildlifeleaders.org) has announced the 2012 participants for its new training program in the Caribbean. Funded in part by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and supported by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW; www.ifaw.org), C-EWCL is an opportunity for up-and-coming conservation professionals in the Caribbean to gain invaluable skills and experience working with proven conservation leaders. Graduates will become future conservation leaders with the competence necessary to lead on critical issues facing wildlife in the region.

    Charlestown, Nevis - April 16, 2012 -- Premier the Hon, Joseph Parry disclosed on April 10 that efforts by his NRP -led Nevis Island Administration to provide enough water for both domestic and agriculture uses all year round have received a shot in the arm with the provision of a generous grant from the Commonwealth Fund

    On Saturday 31 March 2012 at 8:30pm, the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (Barbados Chapter) and our members will join hundreds of millions of people across the globe in switching off the lights at our homes and offices for one hour - Earth Hour, the world’s largest public action for the environment. By taking part in this global ‘lights out’ event we will be acknowledging our commitment to personal and operational actions that benefit the planet in the year ahead.
